If that many Gazans had been killed, it would be genocide.
Unfortunately for your premise, even the most egregious pushers of the genocide fiction don’t claim that 1.7 million people have died, or even anywhere near that number. Nobody really believes that.
Official number from Gaza Ministry of health are ~50k dead because of the war, which is less than 3% of above. Accuracy of its count is debatable, but it certainly includes a substantial number of Hamas fighters, which GMH does not attempt to count/quantify. Israel has publically estimated that its killed ~17K fighters; true number will probably never be known with certainty.
If we accept GMH’s numbers for deaths, we should probably accept its numbers for births.
Per GMH 20k babies were born in Gaza after 10/7/23 through April ’24, and it estimated that there were still 60K pregnant Gazan women in April ‘24, almost all of whom should have delivered their babies by Jan 2025 as I write this.
Add it up and roughly 80K new baby Gazans were born since 10/7/23. . .more than number reported killed by the war. I don’t know if we can fairly conclude that Gaza’s population has actually gone UP since the war started, but it probably is fair to say that if Israel was trying to kill all of them, its done a pretty awful job of it.
